I really like the simplicity of this box design and the patterns that are carved into it.

This is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. It seems like a huge reliquary. Buddha statues have always fascinated me.

More Buddha statues; this time they are embedded in stone.

This is a hope chest, not a reliquary, but I thought the way in which the wood was placed made it look really unique and different.

The found objects used for this reliquary are not obviously connected in a particular way, which makes me wonder what the relation between them is. The inside is separated but can still be seen from the outside.

This reliquary especially piqued my interest because it seems to be telling the life story of a specific person. The mini book makes me curious as to what text it contains. Likewise, I wonder what the key opens. The worn paintbrushes and music sheets suggest the artist was fond of both painting and music. The handle on the side makes it seem like the artist’s life involved travelling.

The juxtaposition of the enclosed box and the one that is open on one side is interesting because it makes the boxes seem like they belong together. This reliquary is unique because it is based on a living organism, whereas most other reliquaries are either inanimate objects or parts of dead organisms.

Since there are hinges on every intricate door, I assume they can all be opened. Though the doors are glass, the paintings mask whatever is within and create the need to actually open the doors in order to explore what is contained inside.

From far away, this appears to just be a metal sculpture of a hand wearing rings. Upon closer inspection, the windows are apparent and draw your attention. I like that this piece requires you to look closely at it to notice that there is something contained inside.

These reliquaries have appealing textures on the exterior that remind me of leaves, wind, and fire, respectively. Each has its own color scheme, which creates a sense of continuity between the inside and the outside. The objects contained within fit the distinct theme of each reliquary.
